UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS (UC Davis)The UC Davis International Programs Office (IPO), in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,manages the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Genomics to Improve Poultry. The UC Davis IPO specializes in facilitating multi-national research and training international students and faculty, and building agricultural education and research capacity in developing countries.  UC Davis is home to the broadest array of veterinary and agricultural research and training programs in the nation, and is engage in research and training programs in developing countries around the globe.  The UC Davis Department of Animal Science has maintained more than twenty unique chicken inbred lines with characteristic of disease resistance to different pathogens, which have been utilized in genetic disease resistance research. The UC Davis Genome Center has state-of-art instrument in the cutting-edge genomic technologies for animal genetic and genomic research. The UC Davis Veterinary School (SVM) is internationally recognized for its work in animal health, disease prevention and surveillance of zoonotic diseases.  The UC Davis IPO draws on a cadre of staff with extensive international experience in countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Egypt, Ghana, Honduras, India, Iraq, Kenya, Mexico, Nicaragua, Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam among others. UC Davis SVM has been engaged with Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania (SUA), the University of Ghana (UOG) and other African universities since 2007 in research and extension activities to prevent Newcastle disease, and to improve poultry health and production by small farmers and homestead producers. In particular, UCD partnered with SUA and UOG to investigate Newcastle disease vaccination effectiveness and outreach strategies.
