Sokoine University of Agriculture is a leader and collaborative partner in major international agricultural research and development programs. SUA has a large team or poultry specialists.
Each year, the SUA Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and agricultural departments manage and coordinate numerous animal health and agricultural programs and projects funded by USAID, USAID CRSPs, USAID Feed the Future projects, DFID, Welcome Trust, and numerous other international development funders.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has a tremendous track record of investigating poultry diseases and production, and conducting extension activities for improving small farmer and household poultry production. Between 1998 and 2005, scientists at SUA investigated the genetic differences and disease resistance of various ecotypes of Tanzania chickens.
