The Genomics to Improve Poultry Innovation Lab (GIP IL) has partnered with the Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency (TVLA) in Tanzania to improve our understanding of the epidemiology of NDV strains circulating in chickens in Tanzania. To kick off this new partnership, the GIP IL conducted a training workshop on 10th and 11th May 2019 at Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania. The workshop, which included TVLA veterinarians and laboratory technicians from several zones in Tanzania, used a hands-on, participatory approach to share knowledge and skills on NDV epidemiology, surveillance, and prevention and control measures. Specific topics covered included the burden of NDV in village chickens; NDV epidemiology in Tanzania; sample collection, storage, and transport; post-mortem examination; approaches for NDV diagnosis; poultry biosecurity in a village setting; and NDV prevention and control measures.
