NeilPic  Dr. Neil O'Sullivan, Director of Research & Development, Hy-Line International

Dr. Neil O’Sullivan is the Director of the Research and Development program for Hy-Line International, leading all genetic research on breeding, statistical analysis, molecular genetics and genomics for Hy-Line Pedigree lines. Dr. O’Sullivan has been with Hy-Line since 1991, and began his career as a Population Geneticist.  He assumed the Directorship in 2003. Under Dr. O’Sullivan’s direction, Hy-Line International has expanded the pure line farming basis to allow for bird evaluation and selection for long cycle performance. Selection for high egg production, bird longevity, efficiency, and quality continues to be the focus of the Research and Development department.  Hy-Line has been a leader in the application of genomic selection to improve genetic performance in the selection process. With over 75 years of experience, Hy-Line continues its tradition of innovations in genetics for egg layer improvement.

 Dr. O’Sullivan received a Masters Degree in Genetics from University College, Dublin, Ireland and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 1991. He has authored over 25 peer-received papers in the areas of genetics and genomics. He has served as Chair of the National Breeders Roundtable, two three-year terms as an associate editor of Poultry Science (Breeding and Genetics), and is a past President of the Poultry Breeders of America.

 Neil resides in Adel. He is an active exhibitor and breeder of Great Danes, Wheaten Terriers, Briards and Kerry Blue Terriers. He has owned and bred top show winners on an international level.
